If a picture is worth a 1000 words ...then this photo is priceless. This is a photo of John Weaver the original owner taking a photo of his pride and joy. When it comes to this restoration..there is no one better to ask than John ....he was there day 1 when it was delivered new to him. The little details that he recalls is remarkable.
When you think about it...John had this car longer than most everything else in his life. He didn’t say alot on Saturday except when asked to recall a specific detail about the car. You could tell John felt a sense of pride being the original owner and curator of such a piece of history. The look John had at the progress of the restoration was like he was looking at an old friend again.
Well said Matt. I would say John and I are very good friends...I can’t wait to see him in Chicago watching and reacting to people’s first peek at his first love.
Great photo. Very special..

looks like the 67 is coming along well
have you asked John what he remembers about the Yenko Chevrolet Dealership when he was there? I'm sure he would have been focused on his new 67 Yenko Camaro but maybe can recall other things Does he recall seeing any 1968 Yenko Camaros on the lot or the back lot where the cars were stored ? Does he recall Frank or Martha Yenko in the office ? Does he recall the chassis dyno in one of the garages ? Did he go to Don's office up the stairs on the second floor of the dealership? Did he see any Yenko race cars there? Yenko may have had the DX Oil 1968 L88 Corvette at the time John was there. They ran 3 DX Oil Corvettes at Daytona in February and Sebring in March in 68 |
Questions
Hello Joe. I copied and pasted your questions and sent them to John ...I am sure he will see the message this evening and hopefully can respond
Joe...John says he recalls the dealership with HIPO cars everywhere...but there were no 68 Yenko Super Camaros on the lot ...he said if there was...he may of left with a 68 . He said there were several 68 Z’s....but he was set on having a big block. He recalls his original salesman Ron Lane not being able to persuade him ..so Don Yenko came over and joined the conversation to help close the deal and sell John the 67 . My guess is since this was early March of 68 ..all the race cars were at Sebring. He was young and mostly focused on 1 car. Lol. I know I am inviting him to Chicago to see everyone and be a part of the display he is a great guy and I consider him a close friend if you’re there please feel free to come by and have a drink with us and we can pick his brain
